Like the previous year ritual, welcome Waisak this year again be held Waisak together in Palembang Siguntang Hill. The location is a historical site that is closely related to the spiritual activity in the kingdom of Sriwijaya in advance. Attended by hundreds of Buddhists Palembang and from outside the city. Historical Story

Siguntang hill since the time of the kingdom of Sriwijaya has become a sacred place. Siguntang hill is a historical place where here used to be a place of worship at the time of the kingdom of Sriwijaya. Siguntang hill is a place for the evidence worship of Almighty God as the kingdom of Sriwijaya with discovery of a statue of Buddha in the hill which is now the statue located in front of the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Museum. When the kingdom of Sriwijaya in the 13th century collapsed then came the Kingdom of Palembang Darussalam. This place (Siguntang Hill) is still a very sacred place. It was frequented come by kings of Palembang as a sanctuary or meditation to calm the mind in order to draw closer to Allah the maker of life.

Location

           Siguntang hill located in the village of Bukit Lama, District Ilir Barat I, is a 29–30 metres high small hill located at the northern bank of Musi River and within the vicinity of Palembang, capital city of South Sumatra province, Indonesia

 Access

It is quite easy to reach Siguntang Hill because of its location in the middle of the city of Palembang with a distance of about 4 km. The trip can be taken from the city center towards the Ampera-Bukit Besar. Access this course takes you directly to the Siguntang Hill. To get to Siguntang Hill, you can choose what you want to use means of transportation, if you want to bring a car or motorcycle itself.. You can also get there using public transport at a cost of Rp 4,000 per person or want to ring a car or motorcycle.

Palembang is one of the oldest towns in Indonesia (Wijaya, 2015, p.1). Based on the Kedukan Bukit inscription were found in Siguntang Hill west of Palembang, which declared the formation of a Wanua interpreted as a city on June 16, 682 BC, making the city of Palembang as the oldest city in Indonesia. In the Western world, the city of Palembang also nicknamed Venice of the East (The "Venesia dari Timur"). Palembang city which the capital city of South Sumatera has any kinds of interesting place and tourism object for tourists, such as Ampera Bridge, Taman Purbakala, Musi River, Kawah Tengkurep, Kemaro Island, BKB, Siguntang Hill and many others.
Siguntang Hill of Palembang is located in the highest area, in the western part of Palembang. Nowadays, it is about five kilometers from the downtown area. It is assumed that the location is very strategic. In the old legend, it was mentioned that Siguntang Hill was the first land which appeared from the sea, where there was pool of water in its surroundings to the river mouth (Farida, 2013, p.2). This place is still kept sacred because there are several old graves around (Hannysigojersey 2013, p.7). In addition, in 1920, some people found a statue of Buddha in Amaravathi art style with Sri Lanka facial expression. It was made in the 11th century. Today, the statue is placed in the yard of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Museum. The panorama of Palembang city can be viewed clearly from the top of Siguntang Hill. To get to the top of the hill, we can take the public transportation heading toward Bukit Besar.
